CMS Board is Responsible for the Revolving Door of Superintendents

Former NC Rep. Scott Stone holds the CMS Board accountable for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ continuous failures of its superintendents.

“The CMS Board is responsible for the ongoing revolving door of superintendents. Our school district will have its seventh superintendent in just over 10 years due to the Board’s inability to select qualified leaders who will focus on education, instead of keeping the status quo.”

Earnest Winston leaves CMS after less than three years as superintendent. After 15 years with CMS, the CMS Board selected Winston as the status-quo choice despite the district’s need for new ideas and a focus on academic achievement.

“While CMS continued to experience declining academic performance, the Board granted Winston a new four-year contract and a raise last year. It’s time for the CMS Board to prioritize educational excellence and stop pushing political agendas through controversial programs such as Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL).”
